New videos highlight the value of practice elements and implementation science in family services

CEI has partnered in the creation of two short videos by the Victorian Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH, Australia) that introduce implementation science and a suite of practice modules now being implemented at scale into family services in Victoria.

Despite decades of reform, research shows that more children than ever are in contact with statutory child protection systems across Australia. CEI and our partners have developed a real-world response to this challenge: the Restoring Families model, which has driven an 18% decrease in children entering Care Services.

Delivered through a partnership between DFFH, CEI, the Victorian Aboriginal Child and Community Agency (VACCA) and the Centre for Excellence in Child & Family Welfare, Restoring Families has to date reached 2,500 families across Victoria via 33 social service organisations, and is now scaling further.

The two videos have been developed for family services practitioners and service providers, to introduce the practice modules and the value that implementation science brings to their implementation into practice.

The videos will be presented at the global ISPCAN Congress 2026, as part of the symposium, "Policy, evidence and partnership: reforming family preservation and reunification in Victoria," on Wed 26 Aug at 1.30pm.
