Australia

We work from our headquarters in Australia to support local, regional, and global projects.

Too often, policymaking and practice don’t reflect the best available evidence. Recognising this, CEI launched in Melbourne, Australia in 2016, with only a handful of key staff, as a social purpose organisation dedicated to using and adapting evidence to the real world to improve social services.

Since then, even as we’ve grown globally, we continue to work as one global team in pursuit of our common mission to improve outcomes for communities facing adversity. Our Australian team, based in Melbourne and Sydney, includes more than 25 staff from diverse professional backgrounds including psychology, public health, economics, academia, social work, and consulting.

In Australia, we’ve delivered over 100 projects with key partners across the country using our specialist technical skills in evidence synthesis, evaluation, implementation practice and knowledge translation. Since our inception we’ve had the opportunity to influence social policy through programs of work with trusted partners.

For example, CEI has been proud to work in partnership with the Victorian Department of Families, Fairness, and Housing since 2016 across numerous projects to enable the uptake and implementation of evidence-informed programs and practices in family services, though projects such as the Family Preservation and Reunification Response. Similarly, our work with the NSW Communities and Justice evaluating a series of housing and homelessness programs since 2017 has led to targeted, policy-relevant recommendations for program improvement.

The work we undertake is often complex, requiring a multi-levelled systemic response. We bring together the country’s leading academic institutions and research organisations to build consortia with multidisciplinary expertise.

CEI acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as Traditional Custodians of the land upon which we live and work and pay our respects to Elders past and present. A key priority for CEI is partnering with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, including the Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency, across our work. Consistent with a commitment to our values, CEI is committed to Reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and has a Reconciliation Action Plan in place.

We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of country throughout Australia, and recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respects to them and their cultures, and to Elders past and present.
