Caroline Turley

Research Associate

Caroline is a qualitative research and evaluation specialist, who has delivered applied qualitative research with marginalised communities and on sensitive issues for more than 20 years. She has particular expertise in research about the criminal and youth justice systems, children and young people’s online behaviours, violence and abuse, and bereavement.

Before working with CEI, Caroline was Head of Qualitative Research at BMG Research. Prior to that, she was Director of Crime and Justice at the National Centre for Social Research (NatCen), where she oversaw mixed-method research and evaluation projects for a range of UK Government, third sector and grant funders.

Ethics has always been at the forefront of Caroline’s research practice. She chaired NatCen’s Research Ethics Committee, and is currently a reviewer for the Social Research Association’s ethics appraisal service.

Caroline has a BSc in Social Policy and Sociology, and an MSc in Criminology, both from the London School of Economics. Outside of research, she is a governor at a London primary school, where she focuses on inclusion and wellbeing.
