Leigh Johnston is an Educational and Developmental Psychologist with over 15 years’ experience working directly with children, families, and communities facing violence, persecution, and adversity. Over the past five years, Leigh has led capacity-building initiatives across education, disability, and child and family services, with a focus on improving equitable access to high-quality support in rural and remote communities.

At CEI, Leigh applies implementation science and participatory methods to support the design, delivery, and monitoring of evidence-informed interventions across government and non-government sectors. As a knowledge broker, Leigh draws on multiple disciplines to co-create solutions that reflect the lived realities of diverse communities — starting with interrogating assumptions about evidence and “what works.” Leigh is passionate about addressing systemic barriers and building leadership capacity to use evidence thoughtfully and inclusively.

Leigh holds a Master’s degree in Applied Developmental Psychology from the University of Western Australia and a Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences from Australian Catholic University.
