Announcing Nida Broughton as Director in the UK

CEI is delighted to announce the appointment of Nida Broughton as a Director in our UK office.

Nida has 20 years’ experience in public policy and research across the public sector, third sector and consultancy, with in-depth expertise in economic policy – including productivity, public spending, financial inclusion, labour markets and regulation.

Most recently, Nida was Economic Policy Director and interim UK Managing Director at the Behavioural Insights Team (BIT), where she oversaw BIT's work across consumer policy, business regulation, economic growth, sustainability and EDI. She is lead author of BIT’s flagship economic policy publications, The Behavioural Economy and Boosting Businesses, and oversaw BIT’s groundbreaking work on gambling research. Her research on central bank communications has been published in the Journal of Monetary Economics

As Chief Economist at the Social Market Foundation (SMF), Nida led research on economic growth and public spending, and developed the organisation’s quantitative analysis capabilities. She worked with policymakers across the political spectrum to develop innovative ideas to tackle economic policy challenges, in fields including international trade, employment and wages, education and productivity. She regularly represented the SMF for media interviews, including for Newsnight and Radio 4.

Nida has worked at the House of Commons, where she provided economic advice to MPs and select committees, and at Ofcom, where she led early research on the application of behavioural economics to consumer and competition policy. Nida was a trustee at the Campaign for Science and Engineering, and a Commissioner on the Health Foundation’s Healthier Working Lives Commission.
