Centre for Behavioural and Implementation Science Interventions (BISI) launches with inaugural webinar September 7

The Centre for Behavioural and Implementation Science Interventions (BISI) was established within the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, at the National University of Singapore, with the aim of improving population health and well-being by accelerating the implementation of evidence in public policy and practice through the use of behavioural and implementation science. CEI, along with The Behavioural Insights Team and the University of Southern California Center for Economic and Social Research (CESR), are key strategic BISI partners. CEI Executive Director Associate Professor Robyn Mildon is Co-Director of the centre.

The centre complements existing teaching and research at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine by bringing a rigorous new focus on the behavioural and implementation factors that influence health and healthcare in Singapore and beyond. An expert team of research, policy and practice experts works with policy makers, organisational leaders, practitioners and providers to design, implement and evaluate transformative healthcare policies and programs to deliver and sustain better patient- and system-level outcome.

BISI's work focuses on four strategic areas:

  • Transforming teaching in existing medical school curriculum and continuing medical education for current healthcare professionals and management teams
  • Conducting research and analysis; including drawing on Singapore's rich data and ethnic diversity, to produce world-leading work
  • Supporting interventions and implementation to directly improve population health in Singapore and the region
  • Building networks to share best practice and research in the region and the world.

CEI is undertaking a project with BISI, examining the feasibility of implementing the Choosing Wisely™ campaign in Singapore. Choosing Wisely™ is a global health educational campaign initiated to improve the safety and quality of healthcare. This three-phase study, led by CEI, will examine barriers and facilitators to implementation, as well as a pilot evaluation of the impact of Choosing Wisely on Family Medicine doctors and General Practitioners and their patients.

In 2021/22 BISI is hosting a new webinar series on 'Innovations in Behavioural and Implementation Science for Healthcare.' More information about the series can be found here.
